School expansion update – May 2011

Since my last update in January, there has been a lot of progress on the building works, helped by a long spell of good weather.  Over the Easter holidays, the skylights in the current top floor classrooms were completed and two also installed in the hall. The new building has now really started to take shape, with brickwork to the lower elevations and the shape and size of the rooms readily apparent.  I have been on the site three times in recent weeks, most recently with the Premises Committee of the Governing Body, and it’s exciting to now be able to visualise the finished product.

The Reception and Nursery classes visited the site in small groups in April and we are planning further site visits for older pupils this term.  Councillor Peter Walker, the lead member for education on Merton’s Cabinet, also visited the site for a photo call with four lucky pupils.
