Reception Update

Friday 4th April 2025

End of another term

We can't quite believe that another term has gone by.   So much has been achieved over the last 13 weeks and lots of fun has been had.  It is so nice to finish the term in the glorious sunshine with lots of happy (but tired) children.

Life skills

On Wednesday, we were lucky enough to have a team of people come in to school to help the children with their knife and fork skills.  We learnt about table manners, what not to do, how to hold our cutlery correctly and how to use them.

All children seemed to get a lot out of the session and they certainly enjoyed the watermelon.

Easter fun

We have had lots of exciting Easter activities around the classroom.  Egg hunts, painting chicks, making rabbit ears and Easter colouring.

Finger painting (or nose painting) was popular as was the chick-making activity.

Maths fun

This term we have been looking at number bonds to 10, doubles and odds & evens.  The children are really enjoying exploring numbers and the use of manipulatives (maths equipment you can hold), such as these Numicon shapes, really helps the children to understand abstract concepts.

3D shapes

We have also been looking at 3D shapes and what makes them special.  What are they called?  What characteristics do they have?  How can we identify them?  And can we see them in the world around us?

Writing

There has been some amazing progress with the children's writing this half term.  From letters to words and now sentences, the children are starting to bring all their phonics knowledge together and write interesting and sometimes long sentences.  Well done all.

Thank you for your continued support as always.  Have a lovely break and see you on the 23rd April.

Thanks so much,

This page will be updated every two weeks.  We hope you find it useful and gives you a little insight into some of the wonderful things your children get up to each day.
