Hello Year 2 Families, We hope you have all had a lovely couple of weeks. It has been another busy and exciting time in Year 2, with lots of fantastic learning and enthusiasm across the curriculum. The highlight of the fortnight was definitely our Flight Workshop, which linked closely to our history topic. The children thoroughly enjoyed stepping back in time to learn about the history of flight and how air travel has changed over the years. They explored significant figures such as the Wright brothers and discovered how early inventors experimented and persevered to make their flying machines successful. The children loved looking at how planes have developed from the past to the present and took part in some hands-on activities inspired by these early designs. It was wonderful to see their curiosity and thoughtful questions throughout the day. Please look out for a few snaps from the day below. The children also had a fantastic time taking part in Number Day this week. It was wonderful to see their excitement and enthusiasm for maths throughout the day, especially during Wednesday’s special workshop. The activities gave the children lots of opportunities to apply their number skills in fun and practical ways, helping to build their confidence and teamwork. They particularly enjoyed the hands-on challenges and problem-solving tasks, which encouraged them to think carefully and explain their reasoning. It was lovely to see so many positive attitudes towards maths and lots of smiles as they learned together. Although the weather has been very wet lately, we are still making every effort to get the children outside as much as possible. A bit of fresh air and time to run around really helps them reset, burn off energy and return to the classroom ready to learn. If possible, please continue to send your child in with a waterproof coat and suitable footwear so they can enjoy outdoor time comfortably.
Ms Marshall is looking for volunteers to help each Year group create a painting on canvas to be bid on at the auction of promises. We have historically made a lot of money auctioning the year group paintings. We are looking for parent volunteers to help the children create their painting - artistic skills are helpful but not required! If you can spare some time in the upcoming month and would like to volunteer, please contact Ms Marshall with your name and year group or speak to your class teacher. lucymarshall@hollymount.merton.sch.uk
Thank you, as always, for your continued support at home. We hope you have a restful and enjoyable weekend,
