Year 6 update

This page is updated every two weeks - W/C 26th March 2026

Message from the teachers

Dear Parents/Carers,

What a successful half term we have had! This week, the children have been busily creating their own reports about the heart in English lessons and continuing to study statistics in Maths.

After the Easter holidays, the classes will have their final mock SATs before completing the real tests during the week beginning 11th May. Please ensure the children complete their holiday homework, as listed below, but also get out and enjoy the break!

Have a lovely Easter,

Team Year 6 (Mrs Singfield/Mrs Smyllie/Mrs Gardner and Ms Deluga)

Year 6 Homework Update – 17th April

We are making a small change to the homework books that children will be using at home.

Children will now be using CGP 10‑Minute Test Books. Each week, they should aim to complete two short tests from each book, spread across the week. The purpose of these tests is to activate retrieval and recall of key knowledge, rather than to introduce new learning.

The answers are located at the back of the books and should be checked immediately after each test is completed. If you are able to support your child with the marking, please help them to:

  • Identify any mistakes
  • Discuss why the answer was incorrect
  • Improve or correct their answers

This process is just as important as completing the test itself.

Children will still be expected to bring their CGP books into school every Friday, so that we can monitor their work and progress.

👉 Please ensure that Achieve books are returned to school this week, as we will begin using them in class by Friday 24th April.

In addition to this:

  • Children should continue to read for 20 minutes at home, four times a week
  • They should also continue to practise their spellings using Spelling Frame
